Public Input Sought
The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is preparing to submit its annual application (2010) and report (2008) to the federal awarding agency for the Title V / Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Services Block Grant. The application addresses statewide health needs of women, infants, children, adolescents, and their families, including children with special health care needs. Public input on the application is required by federal statute, but it is more than that. Public input assists DHHS to better plan for ensuring good health for these Nebraskans. Comments received by July 01, 2009 will be reviewed and considered for the application.
Several resources are available to assist persons in submitting written input to DHHS. The most recent application / report submitted by DHHS last year for Nebraskas Title V / MCH Block Grant (2009 Application / 2007 Report) is accessible from the federal website. https://perfdata.hrsa.gov/mchb/mchreports/states_Narrative.asp. The list of states / territories is alphabetical, so be sure to scroll down the page to see Nebraskas information. Using the html format for Nebraska, the reader can easily connect to sections from the Table of Contents. The attachments to Nebraskas most recent application / report are also available from this link. The size of the application / report can be overwhelming which DHHS regrets but is required to comply with the guidance established by the awarding agency. The application / report gives the public an idea of what is required of states to receive the funding support. The previous application / report offers to persons interested in providing input a look at the framework in which comments will be considered for inclusion in the DHHS application due later this summer.
Another helpful resource for persons interested in submitting written input for Nebraskas 2010 application is a document entitledGuidelines for Input. It provides a summary of the priorities identified through a statewide group, background about the Title V / MCH Block Grant, and how to contact persons working on the application / report to consider public input. --May 29, 2009
