Each year, DHHS Division of Behavioral Health-Office of Consumer Affairs pays for and
helps organize a Consumer Conference which features three days of learning, sharing, and
networking. The conference also gets support from national, state and local Mental Health
Officials.
This year, the Alternatives Conferences has been scheduled to be held in Omaha,
Nebraska, Wednesday, October 28, 2009 through Sunday, November 1, 2009, at the Hilton
Omaha.
This is a great opportunity for Nebraska consumers to attend Alternatives Conference this
year. In order to support Nebraska consumers, the Division of Behavioral Health has
decided to not hold the Nebraska Consumer Conference this year and to allocate the funding
for the Nebraska Consumer Conference to support consumers attending Alternatives in Omaha.
This is just for this year and we will continue to have a Nebraska Consumer Conference in
future years. It will be changed by what we learn at the Alternatives Conference.
The Division of Behavioral Health, Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services is
giving out a limited number of scholarships to attend the Alternatives 2009 Conference,
which offers in-depth training and technical assistance about services delivered by
individuals with psychiatric disabilities as well as self-help and recovery methods. The
conference also offers a forum for individuals from across the nation to meet and exchange
information and ideas. The scholarships will include registration and lodging costs. If
you are accepted for a scholarship, not included in the scholarship are transportation
costs to the conference and any meals that are not included in the registration. You must
be a person who has received mental health, substance abuse or gambling services to be
eligible for the scholarship.
