Regional Centers

The Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) directly operates three Regional Centers (public psychiatric hospitals) in Lincoln, Hastings, and Norfolk, Nebraska.

They provide acute inpatient, secure residential and intermediate residential services and coordinate services with available community resources. Regional Centers serve people who need very specialized psychiatric services. Regional Centers also provide services to people who, because of mental illness, require a highly structured treatment setting.

Admission to a regional center is authorized by the state's system management agent Magellan Behavioral Health who acts as the managed care entity for behavioral health services of DHHS office of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Addiction Services.
