To have foster children in your home you must have a state license. There is no fee for a foster care license.

The following are required to become a licensed foster parent;

  • You must be 19 years or older and able to provide three favorable references.
  • You must be able to show you are in good health.
  • You must obey state traffic laws about child restraint systems and seat belts for children.
  • Private well water must meet state standards. The state pays for the water testing.
  • You must provide each foster child with a bed.
  • State fire codes must be met if licensed for 4 or more children.
  • A state sanitarian will visit your home if you care for seven or more children.

Foster parent licenses are issued for two years. A renewal letter will be sent before the license expires.

Being licensed does not mean that children will be placed in your home.

The following web site explains the licensing process; http://www.dhhs.ne.gov/reg/t474.htm
