The age of the child and his/her special needs are used to set the rate of payment for foster care. The minimum agency rate for foster care is $236 per month. The rate increases based on the age and special needs of the child.

This monthly payment is to assist foster parents with costs of;

  • Room and board care and supervision,
  • Clothing,
  • Allowance,
  • Transportation, and
  • Other usual costs of raising a child.

A clothing payment maybe available at the beginning of care if needed. In cases of extreme need at a later time, another clothing payment is possible.

There is payment for child care during the hours that foster parents work. Money is included in the monthly payment to provide you with time away from the child. This respite pay rate is set by the child’s level of need.

Respite care is temporary care for a child to allow the foster parent relief for as short a time as a few hours to as long as a week. The level of need and age of the child determines the respite care rate. This payment may be:

  • Provided directly to the foster parent for purchase of the service, or;
  • Directly to the provider of the respite care
