Foster Parents Support Systems

Insurance Coverage: Liability insurance is provided at no cost to protect the foster parent. The amount, subject to conditions and limitations, is up to $300,000.

Limited Property Damage: There is some protection for property damage done by a foster child.

Foster Parent Assistance Program: Through the Methodist Hospital Employee Assistance Program, the state provides confidential short-term help for personal problems at no cost to licensed foster parents and their family members.

Foster Parent Support Groups: Local offices have support groups for foster parents. Speakers discuss topics for part of the support group time. Aurora, Broken Bow, Columbus, Grand Island, Fremont, Hastings, Kearney, Kimball, Lincoln, Norfolk, Ogallala, Omaha, Scottsbluff, and York provide support groups.

Foster and Adoptive Parent Association: There is a state organization for foster and adoptive parents with local chapters in some areas of the state. You can call your local Health and Human Services Office for more information.
