Physician Assistant
Application Procedures/Requirements

The following criteria must be met for a Physician Assistant to be licensed:
- Proof of graduation from an approved program;
- Certified proof of passing the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE) offered by
the National Commission on Certification
of Physician Assistants (NCCPA);
- Proof of age (such as photocopy of drivers license or birth certificate);
- Completed
application;
- A person who has not yet taken or passed the NCCPA exam may obtain a temporary license;
- The temporary license will expire one year from the date of issuance;

- A physician assistant cannot practice in Nebraska until a physician has been
certified by this Department to supervise the PA.
- A physician assistant cannot provide medical services when the primary supervisor cannot
be present 20% of the time and there is no approved backup supervisor or when the
supervisor/physician assistant relationship has been terminated or revoked.
Requirements for Supervising Physician
- Completed
application
- Hold a permanent Nebraska medical license.
- Be present 20% of the time when the physician assistant is providing services (unless
approved otherwise by the Board).
- Obtain backup supervisor(s) to accept responsibility for supervision of the physician
assistant when the primary supervisor will not be available.
- Sign a scope of practice agreement with the physician assistant.
