Application Procedures/Requirements

The following criteria must be met for a Physician Assistant to be licensed:

  1. Proof of graduation from an approved program;
  2. Certified proof of passing the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE) offered by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA);
  3. Proof of age (such as photocopy of driver’s license or birth certificate);
  4. Completed pdf icon application;
  5. A person who has not yet taken or passed the NCCPA exam may obtain a temporary license;
  6. The temporary license will expire one year from the date of issuance;

  1. A physician assistant cannot practice in Nebraska until a physician has been certified by this Department to supervise the PA.
  2. A physician assistant cannot provide medical services when the primary supervisor cannot be present 20% of the time and there is no approved backup supervisor or when the supervisor/physician assistant relationship has been terminated or revoked.

Requirements for Supervising Physician

  1. Completed pdf icon application
  2. Hold a permanent Nebraska medical license.
  3. Be present 20% of the time when the physician assistant is providing services (unless approved otherwise by the Board).
  4. Obtain backup supervisor(s) to accept responsibility for supervision of the physician assistant when the primary supervisor will not be available.
  5. Sign a scope of practice agreement with the physician assistant.
