Athletic Training
Continuing Education
All athletic trainers must hold a current cardiopulmonary (CPR) certificate and
complete 25 hours of acceptable continuing education between May 2, 2005 and May 1, 2007
for the renewal period ending May 1, 2007 and on or before May 1 of each odd numbered year
thereafter; OR have proof of current certification from National Athletic Trainers Association Board
of Certification (NATABOC). If more than 25 hours are acquired, they cannot be carried
over to the next renewal period.
In order for a continuing education activity to be accepted, it must relate to athletic
training and must focus on one of the following performance domains: prevention;
recognition, evaluation and assessment; immediate care; treatment, rehabilitation and
reconditioning; organization and administration; and/or professional development and
responsibility. More information on acceptable programs can be found in the rules and regulations pertaining to athletic training.
The Board of Athletic Training will not pre-approve continuing education programs. Each
athletic trainer will need to determine if the continuing education program he/she will be
attending is acceptable. Once an athletic trainer has determined that a program is
acceptable and attends the program, he/she must maintain a copy of the certificate of
attendance and the course outline/objectives or other required documentation in his/her
personal files.
At the time of renewal, each athletic trainer will attest to having met the required
hours. The Board of Athletic Training will randomly audit
a percentage of athletic trainer renewals. If an athletic trainer is notified that he/she
is audited, he/she will need to submit to the Department a copy of the proof of attendance
and program objectives or other required documentation for each continuing education
activity that he/she completed. |
