Registered Environmental Health
Specialists
Continuing Education
To renew a registration on December 31 of each even-numbered year, each environmental
health specialist must complete 24 hours of acceptable continuing education during the
preceding 24 month period OR have proof of current certification as a
Certified Food Safety Professional (CFSP), NEHA
Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Registered Sanitarian (REHS/RS), Registered
Hazardous Substances Professional (RHSP) or Registered Hazardous Substances Specialist
(RHSS).
In order for a continuing education activity to be accepted, it must relate to
environmental health and it may focus on research, documentation, management, or
education. More information on acceptable programs can be found in the regulations
pertaining to environmental health.
The Board of Registration for Environmental Health Specialists will not pre-approve
continuing education programs. Each environmental health specialist will need to determine
if the continuing education program he/she will be attending is acceptable. Once an
environmental health specialist has determined that a program is acceptable and attends
the program, he/she must maintain a copy of the certificate of attendance and the course
outline/objectives or other required documentation in his/her personal files.
At the time of registration, each environmental health specialist will attest to having
met the required hours. The Board of Registration for
Environmental Health Specialists will randomly audit a percentage of environmental
health specialist renewals. If an environmental health specialist is notified that he/she
is audited, he/she will need to submit to the Department a copy of the proof of attendance
and program objectives or other required documentation for each continuing education
activity that he/she completed. |
