Registered Environmental Health Specialists
Requirements for Registration

To apply for registration by education and experience, you must submit the following:

  1. A completed pdf icon application;
  2. Registration fee (see application link above for correct fee);
  3. An official transcript (official means issued and sealed by the issuing institution) showing graduation with a Baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college or university.  The transcript must show at least forty-five quarter hours or thirty semester hours of academic work in the basic natural sciences;
  4. Information that shows full time employment as an environmental health specialist for a period of not less than one year if applying with a Baccalaureate degree.  Information that shows full time employment as an environmental health specialist for not less than six months if applying with a degree higher than a baccalaureate degree;
  5. Official documentation of passing the Registered Environmental Health Specialist Examination must be sent directly from the  National Environmental Health Association to the Nebraska Licensing & Regulatory Affairs.
  6. Attest to good morale character.

To apply for registration by reciprocity, you must submit the following:

  1. A completed pdf icon application;
  2. Registration fee (see application link above for correct fee);

    Have the licensing, registering, or certifying agency submit to the Department:

  1. A certification that the applicant is duly registered or certified, that his/her registration or certificate has never been suspended or revoked, and that so far as the record of the agency is concerned, the applicant is entitled to its endorsement. The form to send to the licensing or certifying agency is included in the application;

    In addition, if the jurisdiction does not provide the examination and education information on their certification, you must submit the following:

  1. An official transcript (official means issued and sealed by the issuing institution) showing graduation from an accredited college or university with at least forty-five quarter hours or thirty semester hours of academic work in the basic natural sciences; and
  2. Official documentation of passing the Registered Environmental Health Specialist Examination sent directly from the of National Environmental Health Association.

An Environmental Health Specialist Trainee shall mean a person who is qualified by education but does not have the experience requirement.  The Environmental Health Specialist trainee registration may be issued for up to one year.   It may not be renewed.  To apply for an Environmental Health Specialist Trainee registration, you must submit the following:

  1. A completed pdf icon application;
  2. Registration fee (see application link above for correct fee);
  3. An official transcript (official means issued and sealed by the issuing institution) showing graduation with a Baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college or university.  The transcript must show at least forty-five quarter hours or thirty semester hours of academic work in the basic natural sciences;
  4. Attest to good morale character.
