Swimming Pool Operators
Every swimming pool shall be under the immediate supervision of a certified swimming pool operator who shall be held responsible for compliance with all provisions of the regulations relating to equipment, pool operation and maintenance, and safety of bathers. The certified operator must supervise the operation of the water treatment facilities to insure safe water, both from a physical and bacterial standpoint. Daily records of the pool operation including attendance, chemicals used, disinfectant residuals, pH, equipment maintenance, and accidents.
Requirements for Certification
To qualify for certification as a Swimming Pool Operator, you must:
- Complete the swimming pool operators training clinic and pass the swimming pool operators examination with a score of at least 70%;
- Pay the examination/certification fee of $40.00; and
- Complete the examination form indicating age, date of birth, and address.
Examination Requirements
The swimming pool operator training clinic and examination take about 4 hours. The clinic and examination are administered and proctored by the Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public Health, Drinking Water and Environmental Health Unit. To attend the clinic and take the examination call Jack Daniel at (402) 471-6435. The cost of the examination is $40.00 payable at the time of the clinic. The examination consists of 50 questions.
The application is on the same page as the examination, which is distributed at the operators clinics.
Renewal Information
Swimming pool operators certificates are valid for a 2-year period, expiring on two years after the date of issuance of the certificate. If you wish to renew your current certificate, contact Jack Daniel at (402) 471-6435 to attend the training clinic and/or take the examination. An applicant who has already been certified may take a pretest in which an 80% is required to pass and avoid attending the training clinic. Otherwise, an applicant can attend the training clinic and take the examination in which a 70% is required to pass.
Continuing Education
Continuing education is not required.

Duplicates/Reissue
Duplicates: A duplicate large license or small license card may be requested at the time of initial licensure.
Reissue: A large license and/or small license card may be reissued when the licensee requests: additional documents; replacement of original document(s) due to loss, mutilation or destruction; or replacement of document(s) due to a name change.
