Mid America Alliance

The Mid America Alliance (MAA) is a regional public health institute focused on preparedness.

With 10 states participating, the MAA is the largest coalition of its kind in the United States developing formal mutual aid arrangements so states can share their resources.

The MAA is currently identifying resources that states can offer their neighbors during a public health crisis that may never escalate to the level of a Governor-declared emergency. Working in this capacity, state health officials along with several key stakeholders are enhancing our region's public health preparedness and response. 

Members of the MAA are: Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming. These states make up the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Regions 7 and 8.

Pictured above: On August 11, 2004, Governor Mike Johanns announced that Nebraska will designate a portion of next year’s federal bioterrorism grant to begin an aggressive effort to develop a ten-state alliance to provide mutual aid in the event of an act of bioterrorism or other public health emergency.
