Introduction:

Physical activity and proper nutrition are key components in the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases and obesity. Nutrition and Activity for Health (NAFH) coordinates statewide efforts aimed to improve nutrition and physical activity behaviors of all Nebraskans.

Fulfilling our mission depends on broad partnerships and collaboration among organizations, communities, and individuals across the state and will require working together in new ways, sharing resources, approaches and a common vision for a healthy future.

Through a multi-dimensional approach laid forth in the Nebraska Physical Activity and Nutrition State Plan, physical activity and healthy eating will lead to the prevention of chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer.

Recommendations:

Physical Activity
•    At least 60 minutes of physical activity for children and youth every day
•    At least 30 minutes of activity on most days of the week for adults
•    Limit time spent using TV, computer, video games

Nutrition
•    Choose fruits and vegetables
•    Make half your grains whole
•    Limit your portion size
•    Eat breakfast everyday
•    Reduce sugar sweetened beverages
•    Breastfeed infants for 1 year
