Scheduling an Appointment

If you want your children or yourself to be immunized, you should make an appointment with your immunization clinic or physician so they can prepare for your visit. They’ll review your immunization record to determine what you or your children need and have them on hand so you don’t have to wait too long.

All public immunization clinics accept walk-in visits, but the wait may be longer.

Be sure to bring your or your children’s immunization records with you to each visit. The staff will complete them after the immunization so there is an up-to-date record of your visit. They’ll also tell you when to come back for the next immunization(s).

Immunization clinics may ask for a donation or charge an administration fee for immunizations. No one is turned away if they can’t make the donation or pay the administration fee.

When you arrive at an immunization clinic, immunization records are checked again. The staff will give you information sheets about the vaccines you or your child/children are getting, which must be read prior to receiving the immunizations. They’ll also ask some questions about your health and/or the health of your child/children and past immunizations, prior to obtaining your authorization to administer the immunization(s). The nurse gives the immunizations, but you’ll be asked to hold and comfort your child/children.

Remember that your help is vital in teaching children immunizations hurt for a few minutes but protect for a lifetime.
