The Child and Family Services Review is a collaborative
effort between the federal and state governments to monitor child welfare and juvenile
justice services in each state. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services,
Administration for Children and Families, Children's Bureau conducts the review.
There are three phases to the Child and Family Services Review. In
the first phase, the State develops a comprehensive assessment of child welfare and
juvenile justice services throughout the state. The second phase of the review
consists of an onsite review, conducted by both federal and state partners. In the
third phase of the review, the state develops a program improvement plan that it will
implement over the following two-year time period.
The State has successfully completed all the actions steps outlined in its
2002 program improvement plan. We are now preparing for our second round of federal
review, which will be conducted in July 2008.
