Mercury Program Inspection Service

image of a thermometer If a small mercury spill has occurred, and the homeowner would like to know if it has been adequately cleaned up, Mercury Program staff is available to schedule an inspection.

Mercury Program staff do not handle actual clean ups of spilled mercury, rather the inspection is intended to ensure that all spilled mercury has been collected. Mercury can leave an invisible “trail”, which can continue to offgass, emitting toxic vapors in the indoor environment that pose a health risk. Mercury Program staff will discuss the situation with the caller, asking questions to determine if an inspection is warranted.

NDHHS Mercury Program has two mercury vapor analyzers at its disposal, and can utilize this equipment to assist Nebraskans with small mercury spills.
