April is National Minority Health Month
National Minority Health Month is meant to raise
awareness of racial and ethnic health disparities and to launch year-round plans to remove
these disparities. It was started in 2001 by the Office of Minority Health and the National Minority Health
Foundation. The goals of National Minority Health Month are to:
- build public/private partnerships,
- encourage cultural competency among health care providers,
- encourage health education and training,
- expand the use of technology,
- provide leadership in the monitoring and reporting of the health status of all
vulnerable populations.
