Lincoln An April 5 broadcast on pandemic flu preparedness will feature ideas and best practices from the Nebraska Health and Human Services System (HHSS). As part of the panel, Leah Bucco-White, HHSS Public Information Officer, will discuss progress and successes from a states perspective in pandemic flu planning.
Specifically, Bucco-White will showcase some innovative training tools that HHSS is using to prepare spokespeople and others to respond to public health emergencies.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is sponsoring this satellite broadcast/webcast through their Coordinating Office of Terrorism Preparedness and Emergency Response. The broadcast will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. CDT.
"Its an honor to be asked to participate. Weve got a lot of talent and successes in Nebraska concerning emergency preparedness," said Dr. Joann Schaefer, Chief Medical Officer. "This is just another example of our state being in the forefront of emergency planning."
Bucco-White has been with HHSS for more than three years. Shes a former television reporter and anchor with experience in the Midwest, including Lincoln. The other panelists are: Nicole Smith, CDC, and Marisa Raphael, New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
