HHS Provides Fans to Help Nebraskans Cool Down
Lincoln Fans are now available to low-income, aged or disabled people and families in several Nebraska communities. The Low Income Energy Assistance Program in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) purchased the fans.
Fans can be picked up at the following locations:
- Cook Farmers Bank of Cook
- Elk Creek American National Bank
- Sterling Sterling Senior Services
- Tecumseh Southeast Nebraska Community Action, 172 S. 4th Street, Tecumseh
In addition to the fan distribution program, there is help for low-income individuals and families through the cooling program. To be eligible for the cooling program, someone in the household must be age 70 or older or have some specific medical conditions that make that person susceptible to heat. Applications can be requested by calling HHS at 800-664-2050 or 335-4102.
The household resource limit for the cooling program is $5,000, and annual income limits are: Household size 1, $ 11,373; HH size 2, $15,326, HH size 3, $19,265; HH size 4, $23,205; HH size 5, $27,158; HH size 6, $31,097; HH size 7, $35,037; HH size 8, $38,990; HH size 9, $42, 929; HH size 10, $46,869; + $3,939 for each additional member.
