84 Public Water Systems Receive Grants for Security

Lincoln—The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services has awarded 84 Nebraska public water systems a total of $344,800 for security fencing, alarms, lighting, reinforced doors and locks, generators, chlorinators and other equipment. The funding is from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund.

“Having this equipment for public water systems will make our water supplies safer and more secure,” said Dr. Joann Schaefer, Chief Medical Officer and Director of the Division of Public Health. “The generators purchased with this funding mean that during natural disasters, like tornadoes and ice storms, water systems will have power to maintain their supplies and provide water to consumers.”

The Drinking Water State Revolving Fund was established with a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency in 1997.
