DHHS Unveils SmokeFree.ne.gov Web site
Lincoln SmokeFree.ne.gov has been
established by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services as the go-to Web site
for all information related to the 2008 Nebraska Clean Indoor Air Act.
"The Web site was designed for the general public and business owners to help them
go smoke-free in 2009," said Jackie Miller, Chief Administrator of Community Health.
The Nebraska Clean Indoor Air Act of 2008 requires indoor workplaces in Nebraska to be
smoke-free, effective June 1, 2009. The purpose of the Act is to protect the publics
health by prohibiting smoking in public places and places of employment.
"The site features links to the law, frequently asked questions, brochures,
tobacco cessation and secondhand smoke information and will be updated regularly,"
said Miller. For additional information about the SmokeFree.ne.gov Web site, contact the
Department via e-mail at smoke.free@dhhs.ne.gov
or toll-free at 1-877-633-7331.
A public hearing on the draft regulations for LB 395 (statewide smoke-free worksite
law) will be held September 25 at 9 a.m. at the State Office Building in Lincoln, Lower
Level Conference Room A. All interested persons are invited to attend and comment at the
hearing or to submit comments in writing. Written comments must be postmarked or received
by 5:00 p.m. September 27.
