 How WIC Makes A Difference

The benefits of WIC go beyond just receiving healthy foods.  Our team of experts provide nutrition, health, and breastfeeding education. They also provide referrals to other programs that would be helpful to meet their needs. WIC clients may take part in individual or  small group education sessions. Written educational materials are available to take home. During a WIC visit, you could expect to receive:

  • Education on how to use WIC foods to improve health

  • Help with questions about nutrition and your pregnancy

  • Help with questions about feeding infants and children

  • Help with questions about breastfeeding

  • Breastfeeding advice and encouragement

  • Tips on food shopping, recipes and planning meals

  • Monitoring weight, growth, iron levels

  • Immunization screening and referrals

  • Referrals to doctors, health centers and clinics, dentists and programs like Food Stamps, ADC, Kids Connection and Medicaid.

Participating in WIC has been shown to improve the health of women & children and save health care dollars:

  • Women in the WIC Program eat better, have healthier babies, and receive earlier prenatal care.

  • Children on WIC eat foods with more iron and Vitamin C, visit their doctors regularly and receive immunizations.

  • Infants born to WIC mothers are healthier.  They weigh more and grow and develop better.
