Environmental Risk Assessment

Nebraska's Department of Environmental Quality

Through an intergovernmental agreement between the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ) and the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (NDHHS) the Risk Assessment Program provides NDEQ with several risk assessment services.

  1. The Risk Assessment Program evaluates risk assessment plans and studies that have been submitted by facilities regulated by NDEQ. The Environmental Risk Assessment Program provides written recommendations and comments to determine if they are accurate and adequate to be protective of public health.

  2. The Risk Assessment Program assists in the development and updates of guidance for risk-based cleanup programs at NDEQ.

  3. As requested by NDEQ, the Risk Assessment Program responds to public inquiries concerning any potential health effects associated with the investigation and cleanup of contamination at an NDEQ regulated facility.

  4. The Risk Assessment Program provides assistance with evaluating surface water risks related to consumption of contaminated fish tissue or exposure to or consumption of contaminated surface water.
