Application Cycle
November 21, 2007 Release Date

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services has announced that applications for Cancer and Smoking Disease Research will be accepted between November 21, 2007 and February 15, 2008 for the funding period of July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009. Scientific biomedical and behavioral research proposals are sought from persons associated with all campuses of the University of Nebraska and Creighton University. Proposals relating directly to the prevention of cancer and smoking-related diseases, or to the prevention or cessation of smoking in racial/ethnic minorities, will be given the highest priority.

LIMIT ON NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS THAT MAY BE FUNDED

Although there is no limit on the number of applications that may be submitted by an applicant, no more than one will be funded for any principal investigator in any given year.

DEADLINE

All applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 15, 2008 in order to be considered for funding in Fiscal Year 2009. No exceptions to the deadline will be permitted.

COMPETITIVENESS OF GRANT PROGRAM

Cigarette tax proceeds which fund the program fluctuate and have declined the past few years. Thus, competition for the available dollars increases. FUNDS ARE SUBJECT TO RECEIPT OF CIGARETTE TAX REVENUE.
