Researchers have identified more than 4,000 chemicals in tobacco smoke. Among them:
Poison Symbol Ammonia (boosts absorption of nicotine)
Poison Symbol Flavorings to mask the harsh taste of tobacco, making it easier for young people and first-time users to learn to smoke.
Poison Symbol Menthol to numb the throat so as to not feel the smoke’s irritating effects.
Poison Symbol Acetaldehyde (thought to work with nicotine to enhance addiction)
Poison Symbol Acetone (a toxic solvent)
Poison Symbol Arsenic (a poison)
Poison Symbol Cadmium (a human carcinogen)
Poison Symbol Carbon monoxide (highly toxic)
Poison Symbol Formaldehyde (a probable cause of cancer, also used as an embalming fluid)
Poison Symbol Mercury (a toxic substance)
Poison Symbol Nitrosamines (probable causes of cancer)
Poison Symbol Polemonium (a radioactive substance known to cause cancer)
