What you need to know

The Division of Public Health brings together all the elements of public health within the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.

This Division is responsible for preventive and community health programs and services. It is also responsible for the regulation and licensure of health-related professions and occupations, as well as the regulation and licensure of health care facilities and services.

Among many things, this Division licenses physicians and other health care professionals, ensures the safety of our drinking water, provides HIV counseling and testing, inspects nursing homes and investigates disease outbreaks. Vital Records, which can provide copies of birth and death certificates, is part of this Division, as well.

The Division of Public Health includes public health programs like WIC, Tobacco Free Nebraska, WISEWOMAN, Health Disparities and Health Equity, Vaccines for Children and Emergency Medical Services.

Data systems like the Nebraska Cancer Registry, the Birth Defects Registry, and the Parkinson's Disease Registry are administered in this Division.
